The Office of Naval Intelligence is located in the National Maritime Intelligence Center (NMIC). This is a restricted federal installation, located at the Suitland Federal Center. As such, the security and protection of property, personnel, and classified material on the installation must be ensured.
Security Policy
Visitors to either the Suitland Federal Center or the NMIC are subject to random inspections as part of the organizations’ antiterrorism program. Vehicles and personnel who enter the NMIC facility are permitted entry conditioned upon consent to be inspected or searched. Entry and exit inspections are authorized to prevent or deter the unauthorized entry of personnel as well as the following items: firearms, ammunition, alcohol, illegal controlled substances, personally owned recording devices, cameras, cellular phones, thumb drives, personal laptops, MP-3 players, PDSs and PEDs with record capability, personal two-way pagers, explosive and combustible materials, corrosive chemicals, and chemical or biological materials, etc.
Accessing the Suitland Federal Center
All visitors to the NMIC Facility must first pass through the Suitland Federal Center Main Gate, located adjacent to the Suitland Metro station on Silver Hill Road (directly across the street from Popeye’s Chicken).
All visitors must present a picture ID card. Acceptable picture IDs include Intelligence Community (IC) badges, Common Access Cards (CACs), military ID cards, passports, state drivers’ licenses, etc.
Accessing the NMIC Facility
All visitors with a DoD CAC or Military ID Card will be authorized entry into the NMIC.
All visitors without a DoD CAC or Military ID Card must complete the Department of the Navy Local Population ID Card/Base Access Pass Registration Form (SECNAV 5512/1) and email to the NMIC sponsor a minimum of three-business days in advance. Once received, the sponsor will submit a pre-announcement and email to the ONI Pass and ID Office.
Clearances
All visitors who have a clearance should have their Security Office submit a Visit Request via JPAS to SMO Code 468043.

Driving Directions
Baltimore Washington International (BWI)
Leave airport on I-95. Follow I-95 to 295 (South). Stay on 295 to Washington Beltway (I-95/495). Follow Beltway south to Maryland Route 4 (Pennsylvania Avenue). Take first exit for Route 4, towards Washington. Once on Route 4, keep to left. Go through four traffic lights. Turn left on Silver Hill Road, and get in the right lane. Go straight through the Suitland Road intersection and turn right at the next light, Swann Road, the entrance for the Suitland Federal Center, Gate #5. Continue going straight until the NMIC gate is on your left.
Reagan National Airport
Follow airport signs to Route 1, Jefferson Davis Highway. Proceed south to Washington Beltway (I-95/495). Take Beltway east across Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge into Maryland. Continue to Exit 7, Branch Avenue (MD Route 5), and take second off-ramp for Branch Avenue north. Turn right onto Silver Hill Road (Turn is by Iverson Mall). Turn left onto Swann Road into the Suitland Federal Center, Gate #5. Continue going straight until the NMIC gate is on your left.
Dulles International Airport
Exit airport via Dulles Access Road (267) to Washington Beltway (I-495) south. Take Beltway east across Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge into Maryland. Continue to Exit 7, Branch Avenue (MD Route 5), and take second off-ramp for Branch Avenue north. Turn onto Silver Hill Road (Turn is by Iverson Mall). Turn left onto Swann Road into the Suitland Federal Center, Gate #5. Continue going straight until the NMIC gate is on your left.
Commercial Truck Entrance
Commercial Trucks must enter through the Truck Entrance on Suitland Road. Trucks should turn left at Gate #0, located by the Water Tower. After clearing the security gate, trucks should proceed straight until the NMIC gate is on their right.
All visitors to the Suitland Federal Compound (SFC) and the National Maritime Intelligence Center (NMIC) must obtain a visitor’s parking pass at the SFC guard station located at SFC Gate 5 (Silver Hill and Swann Road).
NMIC Visitor Parking
Parking is limited on the NMIC compound and typically fills before 0800.
Visitors may park in unreserved spaces in the paved Visitor Lot in front of the NMIC, if available.
Do not park in restricted parking spaces or lots unless specifically authorized by the ONI Police.
Overflow Visitor Parking
Additional visitor parking is available in the large, open parking lots across Swann Road from the NMIC (labeled Lot 3 and Gravel Lot on the map).
After parking, visitors may walk along Swann Road to the NMIC Main gate or use the ONI shuttle service.
Shuttle Service (M-F, 0530-1830)
The ONI Shuttle (white bus) stops at several locations on the Suitland Federal Center (see map).
The Office of Naval Intelligence is located in the Suitland Federal Center(SFC), just a short distance from the Suitland Metro Station. Visitors possessing government IDs may enter the SFC compound via U.S. Census Bureau gate.
