2. Ensure you are scheduled for SSO Indoctrination. You should have received confirmation at least one week prior to your start date.

3. Plan your travel and parking for your first day by reviewing the Visitor Information on this site. This document contains detailed information on how to reach the NMIC Quarterdeck.

4. Ensure you bring a valid driver’s license and any other required documents.

4. Newly hired civilians should also complete the following documents:

Your First Day

This is an illustrative example of what the first day typically looks like for a newly hired civilian employee, but your first day may look different. Speak to your hiring manager or HCMA for details on what to expect for your first day.

Onboarding

On your first day of employment, please report to the ONI Quarterdeck via the main entrance (marked by flagpoles) by 7:15 AM for onboarding. Please leave all electronic devices in your vehicle. You will be greeted by a member of the N17 staff to escort you to onboarding.

Command Orientation

After onboarding, you will proceed to command orientation. The N17 team will provide additional information regarding command orientation prior to your arrival.

SSO Indoctrination

Finally, after onboarding and command orientation, you will proceed to SSO Indoctrination. New employees who are not required to attend onboarding or command orientation should report no later than 8:30 AM for SSO Indoc.

SSO Indoc is a full day program. It is required to obtain your badge and will arm you with important and useful information for your work at ONI.

Getting a Common Access Card (CAC)

New employees will need a copy of their SF-50 to obtain or renew a CAC. The SF-50 is typically available 1-2 weeks after onboarding, and the HCMA will provide it to the hiring manager and new employee once available. The new employee will then be responsible for scheduling a CAC appointment at a local DEERS office via the ID Card Office Online: https://idco.dmdc.osd.mil/idco/
