Farragut Technical Analysis Center Seal

The Farragut Technical Analysis Center is the U.S. Navy’s Center of Excellence for strategic scientific and technical intelligence (S&TI) analysis of foreign technologies, sensors, weapons, platforms, combat systems, C4ISR, and cyber capabilities. In addition to its all-source capabilities, Farragut conducts ONI’s foreign materiel exploitation and signal analysis, and is home to the National Acoustic Intelligence Laboratory (NAIL). Farragut is one of five Centers of Excellence that are distinct commands under the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI).

Mission

The Farragut Technical Analysis Center provides the highest quality strategic and S&TI analysis of foreign naval capabilities. Essential information and services are provided to a broad range of consumers including Navy acquisition managers, weapons and countermeasure developers, operational forces, and national security policymakers.

Functions, Roles & Responsibilities

Farragut analyzes the signatures, characteristics, and performance data of foreign naval platforms, including ships, submarines, and aircraft; weapons systems such as missiles, directed energy systems, and torpedoes; and communication systems, including sensors, electronic warfare, and radar systems. In addition, the Center also maintains the National Acoustic Intelligence Laboratory, which characterizes acoustic “fingerprints” of foreign naval systems. Farragut enables the Navy to understand foreign-force capabilities that it is likely to encounter and helps prepare the Navy to meet current and future challenges.

Farragut is responsible for analyzing and publishing on the following analytical topics:

  • In-depth analysis of foreign navies, platforms, and weapons
  • Naval platforms capabilities, signatures, performance assessments, and projections
  • Signature measurements, modeling, and projects
  • Acoustic and non-acoustic sensor capabilities
  • C4ISR assessments
  • Foreign materiel exploitation
  • Foreign weapon systems and engineering assessments, modeling, and projections
  • Acoustic Intelligence (ACINT)
