Farragut Technical Analysis Center

 

Captain Ruth Lane assumed command of Farragut Technical Analysis Center in September 2022. She served most recently as the Naval Deputy to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Interagency, and Policy for the Oceanographer of the Navy (OPNAV N2N6E5). She previously commanded the Naval Ice Center and served as Director of the U.S. National Ice Center in Suitland, Maryland, and led her interagency team to earn the Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation. 

 

At sea, Lane followed her surface warfare qualification and deployment as 2nd Division Officer on USS Whidbey Island (LSD 41) with a deployment for Operation Southern Watch as Combat Systems Division Officer on USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75). As an oceanographer, she served as Assistant Operations Officer on USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7) and completed a deployment for Operation Enduring Freedom. 

  

Ashore, Lane transferred to the meteorology and oceanography community in 2002 and earned her information warfare qualification in 2010.  Her tours include Optimum Track Ship Routing Division Officer, Assistant Operations Officer, and Senior Watch Officer at Naval Atlantic Meteorology and Oceanography Command; Protocol Officer and Aide to Commander Second Fleet; Officer in Charge of Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Professional Development Detachment Atlantic; Force Oceanographer to Commander Naval Expeditionary Combat Command; and Executive Officer at Fleet Weather Center San Diego.   

 

Lane’s Washington tours include precise time and astrometry requirements for the Navigator of the Navy in the Information Warfare Division (N2N6) and Operational Analyst in the Assessment Division (N81) in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations. 

 

Lane was raised in Bowie, Maryland, and is the proud daughter of a retired Navy Chief Petty Officer. She graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree in oceanography and German minor. She earned a Master of Science degree in physical oceanography from Old Dominion University, and master’s-level certificates in both antisubmarine warfare and space systems through Naval Postgraduate School. Lane’s awards include the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal (3), and various unit and service awards. She is married to Captain Kevin Lane, a Surface Warfare Officer.
