Command Master Chief

Command Master Chief Eric W. Hill reported to the Office of Naval Intelligence as command master chief in January 2025. Prior to his current assignment, he served as the command master chief of Navy Cyber Warfare Development Group, Washington, D.C. Born in Long Branch, New Jersey, and raised in Havelock, North Carolina, Hill graduated from Havelock High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. In 1994, he attended basic training in Great Lakes, Illinois, followed by yeoman A-school in Meridian, Mississippi.

 

Hill’s shore tours include: Secretary of the Navy’s Physical Evaluation Board, Washington Navy Yard, Washington, D.C.; Student at Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training (BOOST), Newport, Rhode Island; Naval Criminal Investigation Services Headquarters, Washington Navy Yard, Washington, D.C.; Scientific Development Squadron (VXS) 1, Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland; Navy Cyber Warfare Development Group, Washington, DC; and DOD Criminal Investigation Task Force individual augmentee.

 

Hill’s sea tours include: Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 121, Norfolk, Virginia, deploying aboard the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67); the amphibious assault ship USS Carter Hall (LSD 50) at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek, Virginia, deploying to conduct counter-piracy operations while advancing to chief petty officer; Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 81, Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia; and a 9 1/2-month deployment aboard the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) while advancing to senior chief petty officer.

 

Hill was then selected into the Command Senior Enlisted Leader program, and in September 2016 reported as the first command senior chief for Naval Supply Systems Command, Fleet Logistics Center Bahrain. In March 2018, he reported as command master chief of Navy Recruiting District Richmond, Virginia. In June 2020, Hill returned to sea as command master chief aboard the destroyer USS Donald Cook (DDG 75), forward deployed to Rota, Spain, and ultimately executed a successful homeport shift of the ship, crew, and families to Mayport, Florida. In March 2022, he reported to Destroyer Squadron 50/Task Force 55 in Manama, Bahrain, conducting deterrence, assurance, and maritime security operations.

 

Hill holds a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Columbia Southern University. He is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 178, Purple), the Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course, the Naval Post Graduate School Navy Senior Leader Seminar, and the Flag and Executive Leader Implementation Course (FELIX-19). Hill’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (3), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (6), and various campaign awards. He is qualified as an enlisted surface warfare specialist, enlisted aviation warfare specialist and enlisted information warfare specialist.
