Command Master Chief Gary Wise

Master Chief Wise is a native of Salt Lake City, Utah.  He completed his GED while in the delayed entry program and graduated from Washington High School via the Utah Adult Education Program.  He entered Active Duty in March, 1997 as a Seaman Recruit. He attended basic training at RTC, Great Lakes and converted to Fireman Recruit during basic training.

After graduating apprenticeship training his initial sea tour was onboard USS Belleau Wood (LHA-3), out of Sasebo, Japan.  He began his career as a Fireman in the Aft Main Propulsion Plant, eventually striking to become a Damage Controlman.  As a Third Class Petty Officer he was selected for recruiting duty where he was assigned to Navy Recruiting District Miami, NRS Clearwater, FL. 

He returned to sea onboard USS Ogden (LPD-5) out of San Diego, CA where he served as the Repair Division LPO. It was during this tour he was selected for promotion to Chief Petty Officer. His next assignment was with Afloat Training Group San Diego where he served as a Damage Control Team Lead, earning both his Afloat and Master Training Specialist Designations.  It was also during this tour he earned an Associate’s Degree in Applied Marine Engineering from Coastline Community College.

Master Chief Wise then terminated shore duty and transferred to USS George Washington (CVN-73) out of Yokosuka, Japan. He served as the Damage Control LCPO and promoted to Senior Chief Petty Officer in 2010. During this tour he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Columbia Southern University and also promoted to Master Chief Petty Officer in 2013.

He then reported to the SWOS, Damage Control Assistant / Senior Enlisted Damage Control school where he served as the Senior Enlisted Leader.  It was during this tour he selected for the Command Master Chief program and earned his Master of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership from Columbia Southern University.

His first Command Master Chief tour was onboard the Mighty USS Ashland (LSD-48) homeported out of Sasebo, Japan. It was during this tour that he worked with the 31st MEU completing four operational deployments in 24 months throughout the Seventh Fleet Area of Operations.  It was during this tour that he was selected to become the Command Master Chief for the Seventh Fleet Staff.

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal,  Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (8 awards), and various service and campaign awards. He is a graduate of the Navy’s Senior Enlisted Academy, Class 190 Gold and the CMC/COB Course, Class 151.
